888sport Launch Search for Britain’s Best Keepy Up. Whether it’s on the playground, a goal celebration or showing off down the park with your mates, keepie uppies have been a part of football for a very long time. In fact, the art of ball juggling has been around for over 1,500 years and it is thought to have first originated in Scotland.
But the keepie uppie as we know it was first used in reference in 1958 and we first started calling them ‘keepie uppies’ in the 1980s. Perhaps one of the most famous keepie uppie freestylers since then has been Pele, but footballers from around the world have been perfecting the art of ball juggling since its creation.
To celebrate keepie ups, as well as mark the huge year for football that is 2014, online gaming company 888sport have launched a ‘keepie uppie’ video competition to find the best, or most creative, keepie up in Britain.
With the top prize giving aspiring footballers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform their skills in front of thousands at half time of a professional game next season, it’s a great way for hopeful footballers to gain invaluable exposure.
On top of that, the winner has the opportunity to help his or her local football team, by donating a full sponsorship of up to the value of £3000, to be spent on things like match travel and new football kits.
The idea is simple. Entrants need to upload a 20 second video of themselves complete 14 of the best keepie uppies they can do.
All entries will be uploaded online to BetYouCan.com and people will then be able to vote for their winner. The top 3 videos will then go through to the final, where a celebrity judge will choose the winner.
The first 500 people to enter the competition will also receive a free £5 bet on 888sport.com. The competition is open to UK residents over the age of 18. The closing date for entries is 13th July 2014.
So, whether you’re keen for keepie ups or just want to have a go, be sure to enter 888sport’s Bet You Can competition for the opportunity to win some incredible prizes (and have a bit of fun too).
